Mat Manual companion guide to "How to Make Inside Trips Work: Kouchi and Ouchi Gari." Print it. The article teaches why the leg is the last thing that happens in an inside trip. This book is the working playbook: technique cards for both throws with load tests, walking-pattern drills for kouchi timing, split-stance building drills for ouchi, the full chain tables with feeder defense scripts, the stiff-arm answer block, counter recognition, and eight-week session plans with logs that record which defense you met and which answer you chose.
Player: ______________________________ Club: ______________________________ Coach: ______________________________ Stance: ☐ Right (migi) ☐ Left (hidari) Partner stance tonight: ☐ Ai-yotsu ☐ Kenka-yotsu
SAFETY, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ☐ Ukemi before throws: uke receiving inside trips must have a checked backward fall — chin tucked, slap wide, no reaching back with a straight arm — before the first full rep in this book. ☐ Reaps contact the back of uke's leg and travel through. A reap never chops sideways into a knee, never lands on a planted twisted leg, and is never driven at full speed into tangled feet. ☐ Tori finishes standing, sleeve held, uke guided down. Landing your body weight on uke after a trip is a failed rep in this book at every stage. ☐ Check the space behind uke before every throwing set. Inside trips finish travel backward from uke's position. ☐ No hand grabs below the belt are drilled anywhere in this book. These are leg-on-leg reaps with standard grips, matching current IJF restrictions on leg grabs in standing play. Check your event's current ruleset each season. ☐ The stop word ends any set instantly, from any player. Cause logged in Part 19.
