Mat Manual companion guide to "The Wristlock Is a Hub." Print it. The article explains why the double wristlock (DWL), once secured, is a position first and a finish second. This book builds the hub and its three spokes as drill cards: the bar arm and the dump off the straightened arm, in that order, the cradle switch when they turn in, and the follow when they roll through, then runs the whole system through a four-week build.

BEFORE ANYTHING: PARTNER SAFETY AND AGREEMENTS ☐ Holds in this book are finished by leverage from position, never by ripping or cranking. Pressure goes on in small steps. Any rep finished with a yank is a failed rep, however fast the tap came. ☐ The tap ends every hold at once, hand tap, foot tap, or verbal stop. A partner whose hands are trapped in the hub taps verbally, and that counts exactly the same. No exceptions, no finishing the rep first. ☐ Every finishing card in this book carries a controlled-finishing checkpoint (marked CF). At the checkpoint the attacker pauses with pressure at the first sign of resistance, the partner confirms they can tap freely, and only then does pressure continue. A card run without its checkpoint does not count as passed. ☐ The hub is what gives the attacker time to be careful. Use it. If you are rushing a finish, you do not have the hub, and the drill resets to Part 4. ☐ Dump and takedown work (Parts 8 and 9) carries falling rules: the falling partner lands on side and shoulder, never on the posted arm; nobody drives a posted arm down into the mat; dumps are walked at half speed until the landing standard in Part 9 is passed. ☐ Shoulders with a history of injury do no finishing reps. Those students run hub, spoke, and defensive cards with pressure stopped at the checkpoint, and log it that way. ☐ Stop on any pain beyond agreed pressure, numbness, or loss of control, from either partner, with no argument. Log what happened in the session log (Part 16).

Part 1: The System at a Glance

One hub, three spokes. The defense picks the spoke. Your job is to read, not to force.

Part 1: The System at a Glance
StageWhat it isWhat success looks like
The hubDWL secured from top or ride: forearm folded, hands linked, elbow controlled by your bodyPartner held still, one arm tied up, you settled and unhurried
Spoke AThey straighten and postBar arm across the posted arm first, then the dump, land in ride, refinish or re-pick
Spoke BThey turn inGive the arm, gather head and near knee, cradle, roll or walk to the pin
Spoke CThey roll throughTravel with them, keep the wristlock family grip, re-settle in ride on the far side

Chain law: the spoke order inside Spoke A is fixed. Bar arm before dump, every rep, every card, no exceptions written anywhere in this book. A dump attempted before the bar is set is logged as a fault, not a finish.
