Mat Manual companion guide to "Taegeuk Sam Jang, Taken Apart." Print it. The article maps the form movement by movement. This book trains it: a five-passage chunk map of all twenty movements, technique cards for the form's two firsts (the knife-hand neck strike and the back stance's guarding block), an anchor chart for the three turns where students get lost, tempo and rhythm practice cards, and a self-scoring worksheet for poomsae judging criteria.

BEFORE ANYTHING: THE RULES OF THIS WORKBOOK ☐ Learn the form in passages, and perform it whole only when each passage can be started from its own first movement without a run-up. ☐ The anchors are movements 5, 7, and 13. Check them first when anything goes wrong; most of this form's disasters are anchor disasters wearing later movements as a disguise. ☐ The kihap lives at movement 20, once. Practise it exactly there from the first week, because a kihap grooved at the wrong movement is harder to move than a technique grooved wrong. ☐ Count the twenty movements as Kukkiwon counts them. Where a movement carries a kick and two punches, that is one movement with several beats, and your counting should say so.
