Mat Manual companion guide to "How a Muay Thai Fight Is Actually Scored." Print it. The article explains the judging eye: effect over volume, with stadium and international amateur criteria named where they split. This book trains that eye. It carries blank round scorecards, the worksheet judges' notes are built from, worked-example rounds read under both sets of criteria, corner instructions for the minute between rounds, and a season-long watch-a-fight practice log.

Name: ______________________________ Gym: ______________________________ Role tonight: ☐ Fighter ☐ Corner ☐ Student scorer Event / show: ______________________________ Sanctioning body: ______________________________

BEFORE ANYTHING: SCOPE AND STANDING RULES ☐ THE WRITING RULE, PASS/FAIL: before any fight this book is used at, the sanctioning body's current scoring criteria are obtained in writing and the key points copied onto Part 1's card. No written criteria, no cornering to a plan. This book never overrides a rulebook. ☐ This book describes scoring as commonly applied in 2026. Criteria change between bodies and between seasons. A printed habit from last year is not a rule this year. ☐ Scoring practice in this book is study, not officiating. Student scores are training records. They are never presented to officials, promoters, or opponents as anything else. ☐ Corner work follows the event's rules for who may speak, stand, and enter the ring or apron. Check them on the night, not from memory. ☐ A hurt fighter is a medical matter before it is a scoring matter. Any corner instruction in this book stops where a fighter's health starts; the corner's first job is the fighter, and Part 17 prints that order. ☐ Disagreement with a decision is recorded in the log (Part 24), studied, and left at the venue. Arguing with officials after a result is outside this book and outside the gym's name.

Part 1: The Criteria Card

Fill this card in for every event, from the written criteria, before the first bout you corner or study.

The two-minute habit. Read the card aloud to the fighter before warm-up ends. Two minutes. A fighter who hears "late rounds weigh more here, punches count close to full value" fights a different third round from one who hears nothing. The card is only useful in the fighter's head, not in the corner's pocket.
