SAFETY, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ☐ Clinch work is neck-aware work. Turns and off-balancing are applied with control; no drill in this book yanks a partner's head or neck. Any neck complaint ends the round, full stop. ☐ Knees in drilling are placed, not driven, unless both partners are equipped (body protectors) and the drill's intensity is agreed. The body learns position from placed knees as well as from hard ones; it learns injuries only from the hard ones. ☐ Sparring formats in Part 8 are fenced: the range restrictions are the rules of the game, and breaking them to "win" a drill forfeits the round. The games train geography; ego is not a scoring category. ☐ Elbows in the pocket drills are thrown to agreed targets at agreed power — for most gyms, elbows in sparring are shadowed or pulled entirely. This book assumes your gym's elbow policy and does not soften it. ☐ Dump and sweep finishes from the clinch are taught with breakfall competence as the entry requirement, exactly as in the throwing arts.
