Mat Manual companion guide to "The Straight Ankle Lock, Taught in Stages." Print it. This book keeps the stage-gated discipline of the toe hold safety system in this library: defence cards first, in the book's order, before any entry card, and the finish last, inside the stages. The Achilles compression is the finish, taught by alignment.

BEFORE ANYTHING: THE STANDING DOCTRINE ☐ Defence is taught and drilled before any finish. No pair opens an entry or finish card whose defence cards are not signed in Part 27. ☐ A partner's tap ends the rep in the same breath at every stage, pass/fail. So does any call, any sound that might be a tap, and the coach's voice. ☐ The Achilles compression is finished by alignment, in steps a tap can beat. Squeezing harder, cranking, or falling sideways into pressure ends the pair's finish work for the session. ☐ No reaping pressure across the knee at this stage, in any card, round, or scramble in this book. Legs control the caught leg without driving its knee across the body's line under load. ☐ Heel hooks are knowledge-only in this book: named in Part 21, with no mechanics taught, drilled, or hunted at any stage. ☐ Any knee pop, swelling, or pain in leg work ends that wrestler's session and is logged the same day in Part 24. ☐ A wrestler who does not train this lock live says so once. It is respected permanently, without negotiation or teasing.
Part 1: How This Book Is Ordered, and Why
| Order | Content | Parts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The stage ladder and the tap pictures | 2 and 3 |
| 2 | Defence, complete, before any finish exists in the book | 4 to 9 |
| 3 | Entries and leg configuration | 10 to 14 |
| 4 | The finish, inside the stages only | 15 to 20 |
| 5 | The lines that bind every stage | 21 and 22 |
| 6 | Faults, duties, rounds, and the record | 23 to 28 |
A student reading ahead is not harmed by it. A coach teaching out of order is the harm this layout exists to prevent. The stage gates in Part 2 refer back to the defence parts by number, and no sign-off in Part 27 can be earned from the finishing parts alone.
The one sentence every student recites. "Boot, turn out, come up on top: defence first, and a tap ends the rep in the same breath." A wrestler who cannot say it and show it has not passed this book's first gate.
