Mat Manual companion guide to "How to Hit a Peterson Roll." Print it. The article explains the roll and its reads. This book builds it from the ground: the sit-out as a platform, neck-safe rolling progressions, the Peterson specified step by step, the Granby taught beside it so the two are never confused again, and the landing held to a pinning standard.

SAFETY, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ☐ Every roll in this book travels across the shoulder blade. The head bears no weight at any point, in any drill, at any stage. A rep that loads the head or neck stops the set and is rebuilt at solo speed. ☐ No head posting to start a roll. The forehead post belongs to bridging progressions in their own book, taught separately, never mixed into rolling work by improvisation. ☐ A roll going wrong midway is abandoned flat, belly down and safe, by rule. Completing a bad roll out of pride is the one failure this book treats as a conduct matter. ☐ Students with any neck history clear rolling work with the coach before partner rolls, and the sit-out's other doors are a complete bottom game for any student who does not roll. ☐ Riders in drilling follow honestly but never fall on a rolling partner's neck or head. A rider who cannot follow safely at the signed stage rides a dummy or a coach instead.

Part 1: The Bottom Map This Book Lives On

From referee's position the bottom wrestler has doors, and this book teaches one of them deeply. The map keeps the roll in its honest place.

Part 1: The Bottom Map This Book Lives On
DoorWhat it needsWhere it is taught
Stand-upSpace at the hands, a rider not glued to the hipsThe bottom wrestling playbook in this set
Switch familyA hip to turn under and a rider reaching for the far hipThe bottom wrestling playbook
Sit-out platformA solid tripod off one hipPart 2 of this book
Peterson rollA committed, reaching rider and a trapped armParts 5 to 9 of this book
Granby rollRoom to roll forward and a ride you want to leave, not reversePart 10 of this book
Sit-back and turn-in familyA rider overcommitted forwardThe bottom wrestling playbook

The reading rule for the whole book. Doors are chosen by reads, not by favorites. Every live drill in this book scores the read as heavily as the movement, because a beautiful Peterson against a balanced rider is a failed bottom exchange wearing good form.
