In catch wrestling the bottom is a clock problem. Both shoulders down together ends the fall, on the touch in the strictest rooms and on a count of three in the common modern ones. This playbook trains the bottom the way the clock demands: protect three things in the first three seconds, escape through the sit-out and the stand-up, and drill every escape against a count that is actually running. The Holds Reference owns the rides and the pins from the top side. This guide owns getting out from under them.
The Safety Frame, Read First
☐ Tap early. A tap in training is information, not surrender of honor. ☐ Bridging stays inside your neck's honest range. Feet first, then head and feet with a spotter early, never dropped onto the top of your head, and never twisted to force a roll. ☐ Stop neck work for the day when it hurts. Numbness, tingling, or pain down an arm ends your session and gets reported to the coach. ☐ Escapes are drilled against control, not against finishes. If a ride drill turns into a cranked hold, the drill has failed, not the bottom player. ☐ Neck cranks and spinal attacks are control-and-knowledge material in this art. You learn to recognize their beginnings in this playbook so you can tap or move early. You do not apply them, and you do not receive them at pressure. ☐ A partner who will not release on a tap, a call, or a coach's whistle does not ride you again until a coach has dealt with it.
