Mat Manual companion guide to "Side Control Is an Attacking Position." Print it. The article teaches pressure, the layered controls, and three finishes read off a defender's own movement. This book builds that system in order: pressure standards first, controls second, finishes third, with the patience doctrine printed inside every shoulder-lock card, and transitions taught as answers to movement rather than habits.

BEFORE ANYTHING: CONTROL BEFORE SUBMISSION, PATIENCE BEFORE FORCE ☐ Tap early and often, from underneath and from the top. A tap by hand, voice, or any clear signal stops the rep in the same breath, and the top partner releases pressure on the finish at once. ☐ Shoulder locks in this book, americana and kimura, are finished by position and patience, never cranked. Every lift or rotation runs over a spoken count. A fast finish is a failed rep and ends the set. ☐ The paper-cutter choke is applied steadily, by settling weight, never by driving a forearm into the neck. A forearm that slides onto the front of the throat ends the rep. Reset or abandon the choke. ☐ Crossface pressure is steady shoulder pressure that turns a head. It is never a strike, a grind, or a forearm dropped across a face or neck. ☐ Transitions are drilled at control speed first. A climb to mount or a ride to knee-on-belly that dumps weight onto a partner's ribs, head, or neck is a safety fault, whatever position it reaches. ☐ Stop on any pain in the shoulder, elbow, neck, or ribs, from either partner, with no finishing the set first. Log it in Part 18 the same session.
Part 1: The System Map
The finish set in this book is americana, kimura, and the paper-cutter choke only. The ezekiel choke is gated separately in this library and is not taught in this system.
