SAFETY AND CONDUCT, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ☐ The flat of the forearm only. The forearm's edge and the elbow point never carry pressure on a face in this room, in drilling or in live rounds, winning or losing. ☐ Any partner complaint about face pressure stops the rep at once. The placement is rebuilt at slow speed. A second complaint in a session ends crossface work for that pair that day. ☐ The forearm never settles on the throat and never slides into the eyes. A placement that travels there in a scramble is released and rebuilt, not ridden out. ☐ Crossface and half nelson are never cranked at the same time. The sequence in Part 9 is the room law for the pairing. ☐ Breathing stays clear under every crossface in this book. A partner who cannot breathe comfortably calls it, and the pressure eases before anything else continues.
Part 1: The Tool, in One Page
The crossface turns the head, and the body follows the head. Everything in this book serves that one mechanical fact, and every standard in it protects the surface the fact is applied to.
| Fact | The detail |
|---|---|
| Contact | Flat of the forearm across the cheek and jaw line |
| Anchor | Hand to the far shoulder, the far upper arm, or your own wrist, per Part 3's room standard |
| Engine | Your shoulder and your body turning as one piece |
| Result | The head rotates; the partner's body must follow or fight its own neck's direction |
| Jobs from the ride | Steer, kill the rebuild, walk the position, feed the far side (Parts 5 to 8) |
| Jobs in defense | Turn a stalling shot's head away from its finish (Part 10) |
| The pairing | Half nelson, in sequence, never simultaneous (Part 9) |
