BEFORE ANYTHING: SAFETY AND AGREEMENTS ☐ All spinning work in this book runs at agreed speed and agreed contact, stated out loud before each drill. Either partner can lower the speed or the contact at any time with one word, and the drill obeys instantly. ☐ Hogu (chest protector) and head protection per your school's rules are worn for all partner kicking work in this book. Hook kicks at head height are thrown to pads or shields in drilling, never at an unprotected partner's head. ☐ The space behind and beside both partners is checked clear before every set. Spinning kicks travel; the wall side of the room is part of the drill plan, and lanes are set so no pair spins toward another pair. ☐ A kick is not thrown until the look has happened. Any rep begun without the spot is stopped, reset, and logged as a fault, however well it landed. ☐ Tornado work (Parts 13 to 15) is pad work only until the readiness checklist in Part 15 is signed. No exceptions for visitors, seniors, or good days. ☐ Stop on any pain, dizziness, or loss of control, from either partner, with no argument and no finishing the set first. A student who is dizzy from turning sits out turning work for the day, and the log records it without penalty.

Part 1: The Family at a Glance

One mechanic, three expressions, taught in this order and no other. A later kick in this table is never drilled until the earlier kick's standard is signed off in Part 25.

1Huryeo chagi (hook kick), standingThe hook itself: extend past, hook backReaching around a guard; countering a leaning head; close-range head-height toolSlower than a roundhouse on its line; a miss leaves the leg out for a beat
2Dwi huryeo chagi (spinning hook kick)A full turn in front of the same hookA counter and set-piece against a partner advancing straight or standing their groundA full turn's information problem; a miss leaves the thrower turned away
3Dolgae chagi (whirlwind kick, tornado kick)A jump and an airborne rotationA spectacular head kick from an angle guards are not built for, when the score justifies the wagerBalance, recovery, and information all spent at once; the landing is the grade

Family law. The turn is the technique, and its order never changes: look, turn, chamber, kick. The head finds the target before the body commits. The leg stays folded through the turn and extends only when the eyes have the target again. Every standard in this book is that law applied at a different size.
