Mat Manual companion guide to "Your Weak Leg Is Not Weak. It Is Untrained." Print it. The article reframes the gap as bookkeeping. This book does the accounting and the repayment: a scored diagnostic battery, drill libraries organized by deficit, a twelve-week three-phase plan, poomsae symmetry work, sparring switch systems, and the re-test that proves the season.

SAFETY, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ☐ The base and balance work in this book is single-leg loading. Ankles and knees with a history get their volumes set conservatively (Part 3's progressions have levels for a reason), and any joint pain that persists past the session reduces the next session's dose. ☐ Speed work on the weak side is earned by the quality standards in Part 4 — never granted by enthusiasm. A fast sloppy pattern is an injury rehearsing. ☐ Sparring handicap formats (Part 7) are run with partners briefed on the format's purpose. A weak-side-only round against an unbriefed senior is not character building; it is a beating with paperwork. ☐ The strong side is maintained, never punished. Ratio work (2:1) applies to the development block only — class and sparring continue whole.

Part 1: The Diagnostic Battery

Run in one session, scored honestly, filed as the season's first page. All tests both sides; record the WEAK side first (the system's standing rule begins here).

Test 1 — Coordination (pad quality)

Ten roundhouse kicks per leg at a held pad, full standard, scored by a partner against this checklist (1 point each, per kick): pivot complete · chamber on line · hip arrives · recovery clean · balance held.

Reading the battery. Coordination gap largest → Part 4A leads. Base gap largest → Part 4B leads (and expect coordination to follow it upward). Mobility gap → Part 4C daily. Output gap with small others → Part 4D speed ladders; the pattern is there, the throttle isn't.
