Mat Manual companion guide to "Starting Muay Thai After 40: The Honest Version." Print it. The article lays out what changes after forty and how sparring, gym choice, and recovery actually work. This plan runs your first year: a session-load ramp across four seasons, hard-easy weekly templates, a joint-care checklist for shins, knees, hips, and shoulders, a recovery tracker that pairs every session's rating with the next morning's report, strength work dosed for armor, and the agreements to settle with your coach in month one.

Name: ______________________________ Gym: ______________________________ Coach: ______________________________ Start date: ______________ Season: ☐ 1 ☐ 2 ☐ 3 ☐ 4

How this plan is used. Read the year first, then live in the current season only. The tracker starts in week one, before it feels necessary, because the exchange rate it reveals cannot be reconstructed later from memory, and memory is precisely what it replaces. Bring the plan to your coach in the first month, not as homework for them but as the document your Part 28 agreements will be signed against; a coach who has seen the ramp coaches inside it, and a coach who has not will program you like everyone else in the room, which is the failure this book exists to prevent.

BEFORE ANYTHING: THE HONESTY RULES ☐ Tell your coach your age, your injury history, and your medications that matter. A coach programming blind is a risk you chose. ☐ Sharp pain, joint pain that changes how you move, chest symptoms, and dizziness are stop-and-report events, not soreness. Soreness is dull, symmetrical-ish, and gone in two days. ☐ The ramp is the program. Skipping ahead because a week felt good is how Season 1 ends early. ☐ Medical clearance is yours to arrange and worth arranging, especially with a heart history, blood pressure questions, or bone-density diagnoses. ☐ Sleep is a training input in this book. A week of wrecked sleep lowers the plan a level, automatically.

What "hard" means in this book. A session rated 8 or above on the Part 14 scale by you, the morning after. Not the coach's plan for the session, your tissues' report on it.
