Mat Manual companion guide to "Your Hips Set Your Ceiling: Kicking Higher Without Forcing It." Print it. The article explains what sets the ceiling and what honest progress looks like. This book does the work: a diagnostic that separates structure from control, position holds and slow-kick progressions, the loaded lengthening menu for the chain that actually lengthens, an eight-week plan with the kick itself as the measuring instrument, and the stop rules that keep a motivated student from buying range with an injury.

Name: ______________________________ Gym: ______________________________ Coach: ______________________________ Diagnostic result (Part 2): ☐ Mostly control ☐ Mostly structure ☐ Mixed

How this book is used. Diagnose before you stretch another inch. The diagnostic takes one session and its result, written on the line above, decides the plan's emphasis for eight weeks. Keep the tracker from the first week even if the first readings feel embarrassing; an honest low line that rises is the program working, while an unmeasured year of effort is just the pile of stretches this book exists to replace. The book is used warm, in short blocks, inside a normal training life, and it argues with nothing else in your week except the forcing habits it names.

BEFORE ANYTHING: THE NO-FORCING RULES ☐ Nothing in this book is pushed through a pinch, a block, or sharp pain. Effort is the currency; pain is a stop. ☐ No ballistic stretching, no partner pushing you deeper, no cold high kicking. Range work happens warm, loaded, and controlled. ☐ A pinch deep in the hip that feels mechanical, or a range suddenly worse on one side, stops the program and earns a referral. ☐ Gains here are expected in degrees over months. Any week that promises more is a week to distrust. ☐ The scoring kicks keep their full training share. This program is one block in the week, capped as the plan caps it.

Part 1: What You Are Measuring — The Kick Line

All measurement in this book is the kick itself: the height of the shin at contact on a slow, controlled roundhouse, no lean, no hop.

Part 1: What You Are Measuring — The Kick Line
How to measureThe standard
Set a targetA pad held at a marked height, or tape lines on a wall at ankle-width intervals
The kickSlow roundhouse, five seconds up, shin flat at contact, standing form honest
The readingThe highest line reached without leaning the trunk more than a fist's width off vertical
RecordBoth legs, in the tracker (Part 24), monthly and at the plan's gates

Why not the splits. Floor flexibility measures the floor's shapes. The kick line measures the kick, standing on one leg with a pelvis to manage. This book tracks the number it intends to change.
