Mat Manual companion guide to "Ringworm, Staph, and the Rash You Should Not Train Through." Print it. The article teaches what the main infections look like and how long they keep you out. This kit turns that into routine: a 60-second shower check, a spotter's identification chart, a train-or-sit-out checklist for the door, return clocks for each condition, and the wash logs that keep your gear from becoming the vector.

THE HOUSE RULE, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ☐ This kit helps you decide whether to train. It does not diagnose. A spot you cannot confidently name is treated as contagious until a clinician names it. ☐ New, spreading, oozing, crusted, blistered, or warm and painful means off the mat today. Covering an active lesion is not a control measure and is never used as one. ☐ The coach is told the same day you sit out. Every time. No silent cases. ☐ Treatment clocks in this kit are the widely used wrestling-medicine standards. Your clinician's instruction and your academy's rule outrank them wherever they differ.
Part 1: The 60-Second Shower Check
Run it in every post-training shower. Ten seconds a zone. You are looking for change, not perfection.
| Zone | Look for | ☐ clear |
|---|---|---|
| Scalp and hairline | Scaly patches, broken hairs, tender bumps | ☐ |
| Face and neck | Blisters, crusts, tender red bumps | ☐ |
| Shoulders and arms | Rings, scaly patches, boils | ☐ |
| Chest and back | Rings, clusters of small bumps | ☐ |
| Hands and forearms | Blisters, cracked infected cuts, tender bumps | ☐ |
| Waistband line | Itchy patches where gear rubs | ☐ |
| Legs and knees | Rings, abrasions that are worsening instead of healing | ☐ |
| Feet | Scaling between toes, cracked itchy skin | ☐ |
Anything found goes in the Part 25 log the same night, with its size traced in pen on the skin if you want a growth reference. A ring that grows past its pen line in 48 hours has answered the mat-burn question for you.
